The National Innovation Centre for Data (NICD) is dedicated to utilising data science and AI.

Established in 2017 with joint funding from Newcastle University and Central Government, our mission is to enable organisations to leverage their data effectively using our expertise in data science and AI. 

Meeting the growing need for data skills

The amount of data available to organisations is growing at an exponential rate, offering opportunities for everything from improving efficiency to developing new products and services. Leading market intelligence firm IDC predicts there could be 175 zettabytes (175 trillion gigabytes) of data in the world by 2025. To put that into context, even if you downloaded 175ZB onto the largest hard drive, you would need 12.5 billion drives. The ability to manage all this data will be critical to the UK's economic success and we're working to ensure that organisations are ready.
