Privacy Policy

Data Controller and Data Protection Officer

The National Innovation Centre for Data (NICD) is a managed by the University of Newcastle upon Tyne (the University), the University is the Data Controller for personal data described in this notice.

Purpose of Processing

NICD will collect your personal data with your consent via contact forms hosted via these website domains www.nicd.org.uk and www.nationalinnovationcentrefordata.org.uk, in order to:

  1. provide you with our services which could include but is not limited to:
    1. Data Skills projects
    2. Discovery Workshops
    3. Events
  2. provide you with suggestions and advice on products or services
  3. sell you our services which could include but is not limited to:
    1. Data Skills projects
    2. Discovery Workshops
    3. Events
  4. verify your identity for security purposes

Data Captured

By consenting to completing the contact form, we will collect and process the following data:

  1. name
  2. email address
  3. reason for contacting NICD

Once you have contacted NICD via the consent form, any further relevant data provided to NICD via alternative channels, will also be collected and processed, unless you specify otherwise. The following additional information may be captured via alternative channels:

  1. email correspondence with NICD
  2. employment data (company you work for, job role)
  3. event attendance and engagement
  4. web analytics interaction

Data Location

NICD uses Gecko to provide the consent form that will enable the forementioned personal data collection on the NICD Website. You will find the Gecko Privacy Policy here: https://geckoengage.com/privacy-policy/.

Once your personal data is collected, it is then processed and stored in a Customer Relationship Management Database managed by Basecamp whose servers are located in the United States of America. You will find the Basecamp Privacy Policy here:  https://basecamp.com/about/policies/privacy.

Data Sharing

The University will not share personal data with third parties unless the third party is acting as an agent for the University on the instruction of the University (e.g. third party mailing house to send printed materials, external venues such as hotels to assist in event administration). 

Data Retention

If there has been no correspondence exchanged within a 3 year period, we will contact you on a 3 year rolling basis to notify you that we hold your personal data on our database and will ask you to respond to tell us if you would like us to remove your data record. You can request that your personal data is removed from our database at any point by contacting nicd@newcastle.ac.uk.

Your Rights

You have the right of access to your data; to update, amend and rectify your data; change your communication preferences, including opting out of receiving any marketing material. You have both the right of erasure and the right to object to the University processing any personal data as part of the consent form capture.
